One of the most common ways to categorize cigars is by their Shape and Size. The technical term to encompass both size and shape is vitola.

Shape: Most cigars are shaped like a cylinder and are considered as having a parejo shape. A cigar with an irregular shape (e.g. having a cone shaped head) is considered to be a figurado.

Ring Gauge: The width/diameter of the cigar is expressed in 64ths of an inch. Therefore, a cigar with a ring gauge of 64 is equal to 1". The average ring gauge size is 32-52.

Size:  The more common terms that you may find describing a cigar's size are:
Corona 5-1/2" to 6" & Ring Gauge 42-45
Panatela  5-1/2" to 6-1/2" & Ring Gauge 34-38
