One of the most common ways to categorize cigars is by their Shape and Size. The technical term to encompass both size and shape is vitola.
Shape: Most cigars are shaped like a cylinder and are considered as having a parejo shape. A cigar with an irregular shape (e.g. having a cone shaped head) is considered to be a figurado.
Ring Gauge: The width/diameter of the cigar is expressed in 64ths of an inch. Therefore, a cigar with a ring gauge of 64 is equal to 1". The average ring gauge size is 32-52.
Size: The more common terms that you may find describing a cigar's size are:
Corona 5-1/2" to 6" & Ring Gauge 42-45
Panatela 5-1/2" to 6-1/2" & Ring Gauge 34-38
Lonsdale 6" to 6-1/2" & Ring Gauge 42-44
Churchill 6-1/2" to 7" & Ring Gauge 46-48
Robusto 4-1/2" to 5" & Ringe Gauge 48-50
Toro 6" to 6-1/2" & Ring Gauge 48-50
Presidente 7" to 8-1/2" & Ring Gauge 52-60
Torpedo (cone shaped head) 5-1/2" to 6-1/2" & Ring Gauge 46-52
